We all commit to certain things in society. However, in order for us to stay committed, we need to have a specific reason or purpose as to why we are committing to something. So why commit to a healthy lifestyle? Why is it good to be healthy? But most importantly, why do YOU want to start a healthy lifestyle. This is what you need to think about before beginning this lifestyle. "If we learn to commit fully to the process then the outcomes will be what they should be. But, if we commit merely to the outcome and ignore the process, we've sabotaged both." – Schwartz 1. MOTIVATION & DESIREIf you share no motivation or desire in wanting to start a healthy lifestyle, then you shouldn't even attempt to begin one. Once you start, I promise that you won't be able to maintain a consistent healthy life without any motivation. You need to think about questioning yourself and your reasons as to why you want to begin a healthy lifestyle. ● What will happen when you accomplish it or make it a habit? ● How does this bring you closer to the person you want to be? ● How will this goal improve your life? 2. SET GOALSThinking about personal goals when you start a healthy lifestyle is essential if you want to stay committed. These goals help us stay motivated, since we want to obtain them. Try to be as specific as possible, because if you create a goal of only to "eat healthier, and do more exercise," this wont bring you very far. Attempt to create goals in various areas such as food, exercise, hydration, sleep etc. Also, try to make your goals realistic as possible, or else you'll never be able to obtain them. Examples:
3. MAKE A PLANIf you want to stay committed to a healthy lifestyle, it would help if you stayed organised of what you want to do and when. Start by taking note in either a planner, calendar or make a to-do list of the days you want to do certain things (eat, exercise, sleep etc). If you make your own personal plan, its more likely for you to follow it. Its not necessary for you to plan out the foods you eat, but it would be better for exercises. now you can begin a healthy lifestyle!*NOTE: It might even be useful to take note of your progress in a journal or post on the media. – Shana J
When you're studying it is sometimes hard to find some time and space for yourself. This can lead to a stressful lifestyle. Everyone is affected by stress and there are several ways that help can help you reduce it. For example, going for a walk or taking a nap. Several studies have also shown that certain foods can help relieve stress and boost overall well being. Chicken and turkey are good sources of stress relief. Poultry produces tryptophan, which you need to produce serotonin; a neurotransmitter that is found in your brain and stomach. This chemical not only helps with digestion, but is also associated with feelings of happiness, which can be very effective in counteracting stress. Soybeans and Tofu are also good tryptophan providers, along with a range of other nutrients required to combat stress such as, calcium, magnesium, zinc, and omega-3. Broccoli is also useful in combating stress as it contains a wide range of nutrients like Vitamin C. Vitamin C has been shown to reduce both the physical and mental symptoms of stress by regulating hormones and restoring balance in the body. Other sources of vitamin C include strawberries and peppers.
Although, these food are good sources for stress release and vital nutrients, they are not a permanent stress solution. But it won’t hurt you to sometimes take a break and eat a snack. Aisha K |
